Anthologies & Short Stories

The Monstrosities is an anthology home to Sita’s short story, INTO XIBALBA. Sita spent a year living abroad in the Yucatan peninsula, during which time she wrote this story. Motherhood, sacrifice, and the Mayan underworld are featured in this story with magical realism.

The collection of fractured fairy tales in After the Happily Ever After is home to Sita’s story THREE LITTLE VISITS. This story began as a retelling of the Three Little Pigs. It doesn’t look much like The Three Little Pigs, but it’s a wild, fun ride featuring truth, lies, and xenotransplantation.

The short story JIZO was formed around the idea of the Jizo Statue. Jizo Bodhisattva is one of the most beloved and revered Bodhisattvas in Mahayana Buddhism. He is the protector of women, children, and travelers in the six realms of existence. It appears in the Spring 2020 Issue of BWG Roundtable.

UNSHELTERED is the story of a young woman thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail. A quest for an escape and a trail name isn’t her only goal out in the woods. As she makes friends and overcomes challenges, she finds out that no matter how far you hike, you can’t run away from your inner demons. It was published in the Winter 2020 issue of Green Briar Review.
